Although Reel Queer did not hold an Out Takes festival in 2008, we've been busy fundraising and putting together the Out Takes 2009 Film Festival.

Out Takes is not a competitive festival but we do offer Audience Awards - voted by filmgoers - for Best Feature Film, Best Documentary and Best (Narrative) Short Film.

Submission Form

Filmmakers and distributors should complete our submission form and send it with a DVD screener (preview) to the Out Takes programmers.

Enclose with the submission form a DVD copy of the film, a synopsis of the film, and any other publicity material you wish to send e.g. photos, press kits.

Out Takes 2009: A Reel Queer Film Festival Dates and Venues

Out Takes is one of New Zealand's most important queer cultural events and the only national gay and lesbian film festival. Annual national attendance figures have averaged 13,000 in recent years. The festival currently tours to New Zealand's three largest cities.

Proposed festival dates in 2009 are:

     Auckland - Thu 21 May - Sun 31 May 2009
     Wellington - Thu 28 May - Sun 7June 2009
     Christchurch - Thu 4 June - Wed 10 June 2009

Only the Auckland and Wellington festivals screen the full programme of feature films, documentaries and short film programmes. Christchurch screens fewer shorts programmes and documentaries. Not all films selected for Out Takes 2009 will screen in all cities.
