POSTER BOY
Dir: Zak Tucker, USA, 2004, DVD, 97 mins
Jack Kray is a US senator from the South whose right-wing views have earned him the nickname ‘the Nazi from North Carolina‘. Running for re-election and looking to increase his appeal with younger voters, he bullies his son, Henry, into making a few campaign stops with him. But there’s something Jack doesn’t know about his son – Henry is gay and disgusted with his father’s ‘family values’ platform. Then Henry meets Anthony, a radical ACT UP activist, and a tentative relationship blossoms between them. When his father insists on him continuing as a ‘poster boy’ to help during the increasingly intense campaign Henry decides to resolve his life’s contradictions once and for all. Stylishly filmed, with powerful performances, Poster Boy puts one high-profile family at the heart of the debate of what true family values are.
