GIRL PLAY
Dir: Lee Friedlander, USA, 2004, Beta SP, 80 mins
If you’re after an uplifting, light-hearted, witty, sexy and non-suicidal lesbian movie, your wait is over. Based on a true story, Girl Play brings to the big screen the romantic tale of two women meeting and falling in love. Robin, who has been married to her girlfriend for six years and Lacie, who’s never had a relationship lasting past sunrise, are cast to play lesbian lovers in a Los Angeles stage play. A series of rehearsals designed to ‘bring out the intimacy’ in each performer achieves its aim. The two women find themselves increasingly attracted to each other. But the question is: is this relationship created for the sake of the ‘girl play’, or is it true love? Lee Friedlander’s Girl Play has won numerous awards and has made lesbian-themed romantic comedy a reality. SUPPORTED BY
