Funny Kinda Guy follows the transition from female to male of transgendered singer-songwriter Simon de Voil. Simon’s own songs are used to tell his remarkable story which covers more than a year and takes him from his native Scotland to the other side of the world. A remarkably supportive family and fiancée stand by him through chest reconstruction surgery and the poignant recording of his songs for the last time. There is freedom and happiness as his new-found masculinity flourishes – but sadness and loss also, as he irreversibly sacrifices his female singing voice to hormone treatment.
