A heart-rending tale of teenagers coming to terms with their own self-identity, Clara’s Summer explores a girl’s sexual awakening amidst the difficulties imposed by the often cruel world of her peers. Clara and Zoë arrive at summer camp determined to lose their virginity. They are not alone. Everyone at camp is obsessed with sex. The boys discuss sexual exploits, real and imagined; the girls flirt like there is no tomorrow. Things quickly get complex for Clara: Zoë’s rejection by her boy of choice leads her to profess a sudden love for Clara. However, Clara’s not interested as she realises she’s attracted to the beautiful, openly bisexual Sonia. The confusion and hostility Clara faces will no doubt resonate with anyone coming out in their teenage years.
