EATING OUT
Dir: Q Allan Brocka, USA, 2004, Beta SP, 90 mins
Caleb is hunky, muscled and 100% straight. Till now anyway. Despondent about his lack of romantic success with the eccentric queerboy-loving Gwen, he turns to his gay flatmate Kyle for advice. Kyle reckons the best way to a girl’s heart is through her gay best friend and convinces Caleb to pretend to fancy Gwen’s beautiful flatmate Marc, who just happens to be the object of Kyle’s lust. A cunning plan, but clearly not one without risks. Things go well for Caleb and he feels as if his plan has paid off – till he finds himself alone with Marc, a porn video and some Kleenex. This hot, enjoyable first feature from Q Allan Brocka comes direct from playing to sold-out houses in London and Melbourne.
Eating Out is a guilty pleasure of a movie, with good performances and a witty script, so be prepared to laugh out loud, and to drool over the gorgeous boys.
‘Eating Out is a story close to my heart [...] it’s another voice shouting out that queer youth have the same awkward, mushy, horny, romantic, lonely, funny, crazy, fucked-up friendships, fantasies, and romances as anyone else.’ – Q Allan Brocka
