WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT: THE STORY OF HEDWIG

Dir: Laura Nix, USA, 2002, Beta SP, 98 mins

No rating required

Whether You Like It Or Not: The Story Of Hedwig This behind-the-scenes look at the phenomenon Hedwig and the Angry Inch (last year's Out Takes opening night film) follows the show from its 1994 origins at NYC's drag/rock club Squeezebox to the movie's triumphant 2001 premieres at Sundance and Out Fest (Los Angeles).

Actor-writer John Cameron Mitchell and composer-lyricist Stephen Trask reveal the origins of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Hedwig herself. Whether You Like It Or Not: The Strory Of Hedwig The cast rivals the play's characters for eccentricity and diversity: Mitchell's father, a retired major general; the many actors, both male and female, who played Hedwig on stage after Mitchell left the show; and, of course, the devoted "Hed-Heads". Some of them have seen the play hundreds of times and a few actually got married on stage during the show's run. Whether You Like It Or Not provides an insight into love, wigs and the creative process. (Out Fest 2002)
