WALKING ON WATER | ||

Dir: Tony Ayres, Australia, 2002, 35mm, 90 mins R16 - Contains drug use, violence, offensive language & sex scenes | |||
Hypnotic and irreverent, Walking On Water shows no fear of breaking
taboos in its tough and comic portrayal of grief. Charlie and Anna made a
pact to assist their terminally ill friend Gavin to die when the time
came. However, despite an overdose of morphine, Gavin is still alive.
Charlie slips a plastic bag over his head and suffocates him - hardly the
dignified death they had all planned. But it's the beginning of an
emotional rollercoaster ride for Charlie and Anna through the highs and
lows of the grief experience - affairs, left-over morphine, accusations
and betrayals. The film's wit and compassion unflinchingly examine the
ways that death and grief can unearth a range of unresolved and
unresolvable emotions.
