THE TRUTH ABOUT JANE | ||
|
Dir: Lee Rose, USA, 2000, Beta SP, 87 mins M - Contains sexual themes | |||
A close mother/daughter relationship goes haywire when daughter, Jane,
comes out. Superb acting, believable screenplay and fantastic signs at a
queer rally ('too cute to care') make The Truth About Jane easy to
enjoy.
Jane is an everyday, ordinary girl at high school and things are going fine. Then she meets new-girl-on-the-block Taylor and slides headlong into confusion and love. An obscene phone call and an outrageous excuse later, Jane comes out, only to find it doesn't end there. She discovers she also has to deal with the reaction of her mother, father and peers. The Truth About Jane sets up the taunts, hypocrisy and dinner time fights in a manner that makes homophobia, not homosexuality, the problem. Featuring Stockard Channing and Ru Paul.
