BURNT MONEY [PLATA QUEMADA]
|
Dir: Marcelo Piñeyro, Argentina/Uruguay/Spain, 2000, 35mm, 125 mins, Spanish with English subtitles R18 - Contains violence & sex scenes
Set in Buenos Aries in 1965, this is the true story of Angel and Nene -
gay bank robbers known as 'the twins' because they are passionately in
love and inseparable since their first clandestine tryst in a public
bathroom. Burnt Money is a lush, sensual film, with a great plot,
superb performances, and distinctive visual flair.
Their story is the stuff of folklore in Argentina now: after a disastrous heist leaves four dead and Angel wounded, they have to flee Argentina for Uruguay to lie low. The wait becomes too much, they decide to break their curfew and their trust in each other is tested. As the tension mounts things start to fall apart, and they attract the unwanted attention of the police. The sexual attraction between Nene and Angel is sizzling, the tension palpable and the fiery climax breathtaking. Burnt Money is an engaging, erotic and truly original film.
