Dir: Duncan Roy, UK, 2002, 35mm, 123 mins R16 - Contains drug use, sex scenes & offensive language | |||
Sexy, stunning and technically groundbreaking, AKA follows Dean, a shy
working-class lad in Thatcher's London who escapes an abusive father and
wheedles his way into an aristocratic world of parties, drugs, playboys
and rent boys - a world where privilege, power and love are all for sale.
The story is presented with three simultaneous, side-by-side images
filling the screen, offering three perspectives on every scene. The result
is mesmerising - both a stark study of the British class system, and a
film of great emotional power. AKA is based on a true story.
